Help and advice

  • Contact and information service This service is open to deafblind people, their families, professionals working with deafblind people and anyone who has a general enquiry about Sense or any aspect of deafblindness.
  • Our services Our services include on-going support for deafblind people and families. These range from day services where deafblind people have the opportunity to learn new skills and Sense-run houses in the community – where people are supported to live as independently as possible. Our communicator-guides offer a vital lifeline to deafblind people living in their own homes. We also provide leading specialist advice, for example on education options and assistive technology.

  • Primary healthcare staff One in twenty of your patients over the age of 75 are likely to be classed as deafblind. Find out how you can help identify older deafblind people and make sure they get the support they need.
  • Social services staff This section provides information for people working in the social services based at local authorities and they are responsible for providing a support service for children and adults who are deafblind.
  • Teaching professionals Information for teaching professionals, including key approaches, teaching strategies, communication with and understanding deafblindness and how it affects the education of a child with multi-sensory impairments.
